How Templates Work
Each template defines the structure and focus of the AI-generated summary. When you start a meeting, you select the template that matches the meeting type. The AI then generates a summary tailored to that format.
Beaver AI includes five built-in templates:
- General Meeting: Balanced summary covering discussion, decisions, and action items
- Sprint Planning: Focused on sprint goals, committed work, capacity, and blockers
- Sales Call: Emphasises customer pain points, objections, next steps, and competitive mentions
- 1:1 Meeting: Highlights personal goals, feedback, blockers, and commitments between the two participants
- Incident Postmortem: Structured around timeline, root cause, impact, and preventive actions
Custom Templates
Beyond the built-in options, you can create your own templates with custom instructions for the AI. This means you can define exactly what the summary should include, how it should be structured, and what to prioritise.
Examples of custom templates teams have created:
- Board meeting: Formal minutes format with motions, votes, and governance items
- Customer onboarding: Focus on setup requirements, training needs, and go-live timeline
- Design review: Emphasis on feedback themes, approved changes, and outstanding questions
- Retrospective: What went well, what to improve, and action items for the next sprint

A generic summary forces you to mentally reorganise the information for your specific context. A templated summary delivers the information in the structure you actually need. Over time, this saves significant cognitive effort and ensures consistency across your team's meeting documentation.
